"Hello, my name is Cathy. I'm not entering any contest as no $ in the world could take my affliction away. I've been under dr.'s care for 20yrs. for acute hereditary angioedema. This is a rare blood disorder whereas there are numerous compounds missing in my blood make-up. This condition is handed down every generation from male to female. The only preventative medicine available known to man are the androgenic anabolic steroids. I'm on a daily maintenance doseage for the rest of my life.

I take 200mg.Danazol & must double up on medication prior to dental appts., surgery, etc. The acute swellings in the various parts of my body are brought on by trauma, or by stress & anxiety, or by no precipitating factors at all. My older sister has had it since birth. My dad developed it when he was about 17yrs.old. His mother inherited the blood disorder from her father. It is prominent in middle-eastern Europe.(we R from Czechoslovakia) I came about my misfortune when I became pregnant with my son (as the female body goes through a chemical change during pregnancy) My son can be tested in a few years at the Cleve. clinic at the Dept. of Immunology through blood tests. I pray to God he didn't inherit the disease as we all know the anabolic steroids create unruly mood swings & depression in both sexes. Worse yet, men may become sterile, loss of hair, shrinking of genitals....just to mention a few terrible side effects.

My body has taken on such a drastic change in the 20yrs. of taking Danocrine, Danazol, Stanazolol, Winstrol, etc. I'm totally ashamed of what has happened to me, but I guess it was meant to be. I'm almost 46yrs. old now & have put a cosiderable amount of weight on (in the wrong places), but earlier on I was even accused of being anorexic by family members! Acquaintances made insulting remarks about all the hair on my arms, legs, stomach & bikini line. I assisted them in the project (complete with gray sweatsuits with pantyhose wadded up on their biceps).I sat in on the class. They did very well. I felt honored, for I assumed my son was maybe ashamed if word got out that his mom had to take roids the rest of her life.

The city I live in is small so in the very beginning (20yrs ago) I had a rough time getting a pharmacist to order the Danazol for me, even with a prescription from the Cleveland Clinic. My father suffered very much with the inherited affliction before he began hormone therapy. My older sister has been taking the roids even longer than I. Did I mention that my husband & I had to sign a document at the Cleveland Clinic stating that we WOULD NOT have any more children upon me starting the roids as my genetic make-up would be altered. Any pregnancies would result in a mandatory theraputic abortion. From deformed eggs, irregular menstrual periods, to a very early menopause.......I personally urge my fellow females to remain just that.....-----sexy, honest, loving FEMALES. Respectfully & grateful I can still enjoy life with an understanding,patient,wonderful husband.

Steroids will definately bring on an early or premature menopause. The night sweats & hot flashes (if you suffer from them) will continue, as a woman cannot take female hormones (Premarin, etc.) while on Testosterone (anabolic steroids) as the female ones cancel out the male ones. I'm always very warm, day & night. There's no relief. At 32 degrees, I'll open windows & just wear a T-shirt. My family suffers along with me as they complain of the cold......I complain of heat.This is just another small side effect of the Danocrine (Danozol) medication I must take daily for the rest of my life. My little sister (borderline angioedemic) is dead at 37, cold in the ground, sometimes I think the wrong daughter is in that grave. Cold or even cool is what I wish to feel. I only work 3 hrs. a day at a local grade school, but I suffer there daily, also, from the heat.
